Simplicity, Still Life, & The History of Art
"A still life (plural still lifes) is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural (food, flowers, dead animals, plants, rocks, or shells) or man-made (drinking glasses, books, vases, jewelry, coins, pipes, an so on...) With origins in the Middle Ages and Ancient Graeco-Roman Art, still life painting emerged as a destinct genre and professional specialization in Western Painting by the late 16th century, and has remained significant since then. - "What is Still Life Photography?" Make a post on your blog titled, "Still Life Photography" and write down a definition in your own words. Be sure to include an example image as well.
- Post one image (digital or film) of your own making due on or before: June 11th.
- You must use a single light source (reflectors/bounces are allowed & encouraged).
- You can use a studio light or take advantage of natural light.
- Think: "Simplicity."
- If you choose to shoot film (this includes scanning your print on the flatbed scanner), you get a bonus mark (because it is more work).
